EBS Oilfield 1.3MW Solar Power Plant Successfully Commissioned

PublishTime:2025-06-23

Against the backdrop of the Iraqi government and Ministry of Oil’s strong push for energy diversification and green, low-carbon development, the Middle Oil Company (MdOC), in collaboration with the EBS Oilfield, has launched a renewable energy demonstration project. On June 22, the commissioning ceremony for the 1.3-megawatt solar power plant at EBS Oilfield was successfully held, marking MdOC’s first solar energy project and a solid step toward optimizing Iraq’s oilfield energy structure and promoting sustainable development.

Since its launch, the EBS Oilfield solar project has received strong support and attention from MdOC. Covering an area of 15,000 square meters, the plant is expected to generate 2,400 megawatt-hours of electricity annually. At peak times, it can supply nearly half of the oilfield’s power demand, significantly reducing fuel consumption. The project is estimated to save $720,000 annually in fuel procurement costs and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 2,640 tons—equivalent to planting 120,000 trees. This not only eases the energy burden on oilfield operations but also provides MdOC with valuable experience in green energy development, laying a solid foundation for larger-scale clean energy projects in the future.

In response to the practical needs of oilfield development and the challenge of green, low-carbon transition, the EBS Oilfield project actively introduced advanced Chinese photovoltaic (PV) technology tailored to local climatic conditions, creating a highly efficient and durable solar power station. The project adopted high-temperature-resistant TOPCon high-efficiency PV modules, equipped with intelligent thermal control and cooling systems to ensure stable performance under extreme conditions exceeding 50°C. Additionally, intelligent cleaning robots were deployed to greatly improve operational and maintenance efficiency, ensuring long-term reliability of the PV system.

The successful commissioning of the EBS Oilfield solar power station not only serves as a landmark achievement in MdOC’s green energy efforts but also further deepens and broadens China-Iraq energy cooperation. Moving forward, the project will continue to explore the integration of solar, wind, and other renewable energy forms into oilfield operations, aiming to build a sustainable energy development model and contribute to Iraq’s broader green and low-carbon energy transition.
